German parts maker Grammer opens plant in Shenyang to supply BMW

German auto interiors supplier Grammer AG has launched output at a new factory in the northeast China city of Shenyang.

The new production site, its 11th in China, will build center consoles, armrests and other interior components for locally produced BMW vehicles, according to information released by the company.

The plant has a total floor area of 8,000 square meters and will employ around 80 people.

The company is targeting more growth in China and has already started planning to expand the Shenyang factory, Grammer said.

In Shenyang, BMW assembles gasoline, plug-in hybrid and full-electric vehicles for the BMW brand at a joint venture with local partner Brilliance China Automotive Holdings. The partnership can produce up to 760,000 vehicles a year.

Grammer, headquartered in Ursensollen, Germany, employs roughly 14,000 people in 20 countries and booked global sales of 1.7 billion euros ($1.96 billion) in 2020. It was acquired by Chinese auto parts supplier Ningbo Jifeng Auto Parts Co. in 2018.
