The NBA is set to introduce a new format for the 2024 NBA Draft, turning it into a two-day event. The first round of the draft will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 26, while the second round will take place at ESPN’s Seaport District Studios in New York City on June 27. This marks a departure from the traditional single-day draft event.

Teams will maintain a five-minute interval between picks during the first round. However, with the second round now having its own dedicated day, the time between picks in the second round will increase from two minutes to four minutes.

The draft’s first round will be broadcast on ABC, ESPN, and the ESPN app, while the second round will be exclusively aired on ESPN and ESPN app. Both nights of coverage will begin at 8 p.m. ET.

Joe Dumars, NBA executive vice president and head of basketball operations, explained the decision, stating, “Based on feedback about the NBA Draft format from basketball executives around the league and my own experience in draft rooms, we believe that teams will benefit from being able to regroup between rounds and having additional time to make decisions during the second round. Two nights of primetime coverage will also enhance the viewing experience for our fans and further showcase the draftees.”

This move aims to improve the overall draft experience for teams and fans alike. The extended coverage period allows teams more time to strategize between rounds and make informed decisions during the second round. Additionally, the two-night primetime format is expected to enhance the audience’s viewing experience and provide more exposure for the drafted players.
