Dodgers vs. Giants: NLDS Game 3 TV channel, live stream, watch online, time, odds, pitching matchup

The anxiously awaited Dodgers-Giants NLDS shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 and, if necessary, Game 4. In Game 2, the Dodgers evened the series with a 9-2 win thanks to five strong innings from Julio Urías and a balanced attack that saw six different Dodger hitters drive in at least one run. Now let’s set the stage for Monday’s critical NLDS Game 3 at Dodger Stadium.

Preview

With the series tied 1-1, this NLDS is now in essence a best-of-three series with the Dodgers’ having home-field advantage. The Giants will return home in this series only in the event of a decisive Game 5.

Wood, the lefty former Dodger and current Giant, this season has pitched to a 3.83 ERA/107 ERA+ with a 3.90 K/BB ratio in 138 2/3 innings. As for Scherzer, he’s a leading NL Cy Young candidate thanks to his 2021 body of work for the Nationals and then Dodgers post-trade deadline. In a combined 179 1/3 innings this season, Scherzer has put up 2.46 ERA/166 ERA+ with a K/BB ratio of 6.56.

In a vacuum, this pitching match-up would be a clear advantage for the Dodgers. However, Scherzer hasn’t been himself lately. He ended the regular season by allowing 11 runs on 17 hits over his final two starts — a span of 10 1/3 innings. And while Scherzer allowed only one run in 4 1/3 innings against the Cardinals in the NL Wild Card Game, his command was sorely lacking (and he was fortunate to allow only one run). How well Scherzer is able to spot the ball early in Game 3 may be telling.

Prediction

We’ll say Scherzer does well enough at keeping runs off the board, even if he’s still not his vintage self, and that the Dodgers get to Wood early to take a series lead.

Pick: Dodgers 5, Giants 3
