Suggs suffered the injury with 4:02 left in the opening period of Orlando’s 96-86 defeat when his left knee collided with Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell’s leg as he attempted to steal the ball.
Immediately after the collision, Suggs fell to the floor, prompting the Magic to call for a timeout to assess his condition.
Despite initially appearing unable to put any weight on his left leg, Suggs, with the assistance of team trainers, was helped off the court.
The Magic initially listed Suggs’ return as questionable, but to the surprise of many, he returned to action in the second half sporting a sleeve on his leg.
Despite the setback, Suggs managed to contribute 9 points and ignited a late rally in the fourth quarter, during which the Magic scored 13 unanswered points to narrow the gap to 87-78. However, Mitchell’s return to the game saw the Cavaliers regain control, ultimately securing a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Magic coach Jamahl Mosley acknowledged the impact of Suggs’ injury on the team’s morale, emphasizing his importance as a defensive stalwart.
Following the game, Suggs appeared unfazed by the injury, expressing confidence in his readiness for Game 3.
“I’m good,” he affirmed. “I was able to finish. It will be cool to get back home and get treatment for a couple of days. We play Thursday at 7 p.m. and I’ll be ready.”
Suggs, Orlando’s third-leading scorer and a key defensive asset, is determined to bounce back swiftly from the setback as the Magic strive to turn the series around.
