Ahead of his departure to Paris, Daley shares his excitement about what matters most this time: “I have won an Olympic gold medal,” he says. “For me, the Olympic gold medal this time is having my kids there to watch. That’s really the thing I’m looking forward to most going into this competition.”

Joining Daley in Paris will be his husband, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, and their two sons, six-year-old Robbie and one-year-old Phoenix Rose, marking a significant family moment as Daley becomes the first British diver to compete in five Olympic Games. Despite being the senior member of Team GB’s diving squad at 30, Daley acknowledges the toll on his body over the years, relying on specialized gear like heated trousers for comfort.

Reflecting on his Olympic journey, Daley admits to a shift in perspective: “In Beijing, London, and Rio, I pushed myself relentlessly because I craved success. Now, having achieved my goals in the sport, this feels like a bonus year where I can savor the experience.”

With a renewed focus on being present and enjoying the moment, Daley is determined to make the most of what could be his final Olympics. Partnering with Noah Williams in the synchronized event, Daley aims to deliver his best performance yet, cherishing the support of his family and the memories they create together.

As he prepares for competition, Daley reflects on what drives him: “It’s something nice to look back on in 20 or 30 years’ time. When I’m sitting there not doing much, I can look back and say: ‘You know what, I managed to go to five Olympic Games and I will be pretty happy with that.’”
