The club’s manager, Erik ten Hag, had reportedly desired the Swedish striker in the January transfer window. However, the high asking price at that time hindered any potential move to Old Trafford. Now, with the summer window approaching, Manchester United may revive their interest, although they will face competition from Chelsea.
Erik ten Hag, having successfully secured Rasmus Hojlund in a significant transfer last summer, is reportedly seeking a complementary striker to enhance the team’s forward line. Gyokeres had been on their radar before the January window due to his robust playing style, which could contribute to the team’s build-up play.
Gyokeres comes with a hefty €100 million release clause, a factor that deterred clubs from pursuing him in the January transfer window. Sporting CP, recognizing the player’s outstanding season with 29 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, is unlikely to negotiate for anything less than the release clause.
