Baldur’s Gate 3 Dominates The Game Awards 2023! Epic Wins, Surprises, and Star-Studded Moments Unveiled

Baldur’s Gate 3 had an exceptional night at The Game Awards.Not only did it secure the coveted Game of the Year title, but the Dungeons and Dragons epic also clinched victories in categories such as Best RPG, Best Community Support, Best Multiplayer, and the Players’ Voice Award. Additionally, Neil Newbon, one of its actors, took home the Best Performance award.

The surreal horror adventure Alan Wake 2 closely followed, earning accolades for Best Directing, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction. The highlight of the night, however, was a live musical performance featuring the game’s stars and creator Sam Lake, who engaged in interpretive dance set to a heavy metal accompaniment.\

Other memorable moments included Hideo Kojima and Jordan Peele announcing a new collaboration called OD, and celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, Timothée Chalamet, Simu Liu, Anthony Mackie, and stars from the upcoming Fallout TV show taking the stage to promote their game-related projects and present awards.

A live orchestra performed a new song from the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which, incidentally, also claimed victory in the Most Anticipated Game category. VTuber Ironmouse accepted the Content Creator of the Year award in character as an animated demon queen. Awards founder and host Geoff Keighley, joined by muppet Gonzo, reflected on the Best Action/Adventure winner, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, discussing the pursuit of chickens in the game.

Aside from the awards, there were several noteworthy announcements, including Matthew McConaughey endorsing Exodus, Capcom revealing Monster Hunter Wilds with a 2025 release date, and the creators of Persona series introducing a new fantasy JRPG titled Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Other announcements included Arkane Lyon’s game set in Paris based on Marvel’s vampire hero, Blade, No Man’s Sky developer Sean Murray unveiling Light No Fire, an upcoming open-world title, and surprise expansions for Final Fantasy 16 and God of War Ragnarök. Epic also made multiple announcements for their expanding Fortnite metaverse, featuring a new Lego mode and a racing-focused spin on Rocket League.

In addition to the major releases, 2023 showcased two hit fishing games collaborating in a free crossover titled Dredge, set to release later in the month. Trailers for 2024 games with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice vibes, such as Black Myth: Wukong and Team Ninja’s Rise of the Rōnin, were also revealed. Among the newly announced indies were Pony Island 2: Panda Circus, Harmonium: The Musical, and Big Walk, promising diverse and intriguing gaming experiences.
