Heathrow Airport Faces Worker Strike Over Outsourcing Plans
A British labor union announced on Tuesday that nearly 800 workers at Heathrow Airport are set to strike next month. This action follows the company’s decision to outsource hundreds of roles as part of cost-cutting measures.

According to a statement by Unite, the workers will stage a strike from May 7 to May 13. The union noted that Heathrow, the busiest airport in the country, did not engage in negotiations with them regarding alternatives to outsourcing the workforce.
Heathrow responded to the situation, stating, “There are no job losses as a result of these changes, and we continue to discuss with Unite the implementation of these changes for the small number of colleagues impacted.” The airport assured that robust contingency plans are in place for each affected area and anticipates no disruption to passenger journeys.
As part of the reorganization, Heathrow plans to bring all passenger-facing security roles in-house, while transferring small trolley operations and passenger logistics teams to third-party suppliers already operating at the airport.
