Kelly Clarkson’s Epic Cher Showdown on ‘Kellyoke’ Leaves Fans in Awe!
On her talk show’s “Kellyoke” segment this Wednesday, Kelly Clarkson didn’t just stop at her rendition of Cher’s “DJ Play a Christmas Song” but followed it up with a cover of Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas.”
Released in 1970, Hathaway’s track, initially met with modest success, has since climbed various Billboard charts, solidifying its status as a cherished holiday classic. In the opening verse, Clarkson effortlessly croons, “Hang all the mistletoe/I’m gonna get to know you better/This Christmas and as we trim the tree/How much fun it’s gonna be together.” Later in the song, she belts out, “And this Christmas will be, a very special Christmas, for me.”

The day before, Clarkson took on the neo-disco track, “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” concluding the segment with a dramatic moment—falling to her knees and expressing, “I love this song!” Cher herself approved of the performance, praising Clarkson on social media: “KELLY,,,,U ACED IT‼️ U GOT THE GIRL.VERSION OF MY VOICE… BABE, I AM OUT OF MY MIND OVER UR VERSION… THE MODULATION GAVE ME… I DONT KNOW, I JUST LOST MY MIND‼️ SISTER U GOT IT.”
In a previous appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher criticized the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, highlighting that despite having No. 1 songs in seven decades, she’s only the second artist to achieve this after the Rolling Stones. She remarked, “It took four of them to be one of me,” expressing frustration at not being inducted into the Hall of Fame and asserting her unwavering stance.
