In an official statement, the United Kingdom-based organization announced that the Kenyan Head of State emerged as one of the recipients of the 12th ALM Persons of the Year Awards 2023. This recognition followed a two-step selection process, which involved a call for nominations and an online voting poll that concluded on December 14.

Kenya’s President

Ruto received the award alongside outgoing Liberian President George Weah and former Tanzanian Head of State Jakaya Kikwete. Weah secured the African Political Leader of the Year award, while Kikwete was honored as the African Peace and Security Leader of the Year.

The Kenyan president has been actively addressing various issues affecting the African continent, such as climate change, debt restructuring, and advocating for inclusive global financial management.

The victories of this trio, as highlighted by the ALM, were largely based on the results of the online poll, which attracted votes from across Africa and around the world.
